The spirit of travel

Icelandic winter offers us the chance to experience several hours of low-angle sunlight and the possibility of seeing northern lights when it gets dark. This stay invites you to encounter and dialogue with these lights.

« After all, in Iceland there is not much else to see other than rocks, but there is this light that transforms men into poets! ». J. K. Stefansson, « Between Sky and Earth », Ed Gallimard.

Discovery of the South Coast. You stop at the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, two of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country.

Then you cross the immense lava fields of the Laki volcano, usually covered in moss but in this season covered in snow.

You approach for the first time the glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón, the Diamond Beach and its famous icebergs stranded on the black sand.

You spend 4 nights in the same location, close to the glacial lagoon, to fully enjoy the region.

Icebergs and ice caves

Days vary around several photography outings made according to weather and lighting around the glacial lagoons of Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón.

You make daytime outings to take advantage of the sun's glancing light, which passes through the ice and illuminates this ever-changing landscape differently each day, but also in the evening to admire and capture the spectacle of the northern lights.

You take walks along the black sand beach and around the lagoon, to approach the icebergs.

A day of photos in an ice cave is planned during these days.

You make a final stop at Jökulsárlón before taking the same road back heading West towards Reykjavik. You stop at Skaftafell National Park where you can admire, weather permitting, waterfalls and a striking snow-covered dwarf birch forest.

You enjoy the vast black sand beaches of Vík which contrast with the lights of these recent days, a return to black and white and minimalist forms.
